Welcome to my new Website

Announcing the launch of my new Website, http://karenballpaintings.com to showcase the paintings I have created.

The most recent painting is the Mountains. This is a large canvas with lots of loose brush strokes. I under painted with a wash of light greys and blues and then painted over in thick oils, using a combination of brushes and palette knives. I wanted to create a painting that looked like a mountain range without applying too much detail. I really wanted to use the viewer’s imagination to complete the picture.

Before the Mountains I painted the Plough lines. I got the idea from a photograph of some plough marks taken by a fellow artist. I picked a random colour scheme for the painting. I laid down a loose wash to structure the picture and then used thick oil paint applied with brushes and palette knives. I wanted to produce a brightly coloured landscape with lots of movement, again I did not want to put in too much detail, I want to let the viewer’s eye roam freely over the canvas.

Currently I am painting a piece using colours from the Australian landscape. It will be called the Fabric of Australia. I have built some texture on a canvas to look like a woven cloth, which is then painted with lots of colours which weave in and out of each other in an abstract pattern. This will appear on my website soon.
